Spoon - “Something to Look Forward To” - Kill the Moonlight (2002)

I need something to look forward to these days.

Kill the Moonlight was my introduction to the world of indie rock. My friend downloaded a track (I forget which, Jonathon Fisk maybe) on WinMX for me, and I was hooked. I had entered a new world. Thank you amigo.

Hey yall, I obviously haven’t posted here in a long time. I don’t mess around with the Korg DS-10 much anymore. I did make a new tumblr just for music I like, which you can click on above if you so desire. Here it is again:

Hope you can dig it. I wish Tumblr would let me switch my main/posting blog.

To Be Young (Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High) — Ryan Adams

Oh, one day, when you’re looking back
You were young and man, you were sad
When you’re young, you get sad
When you’re young, you get sad, then you get high

Note: I am still alive.

Tiny Famicom cartridge charm attached to a DS Lite (click for a larger image). It’s not quite as neat as my Game Center CX charm, but I’d still like to get one, maybe as something I can attach to a future Nintendo 3DS. Preferably, I’d attach it to my system with something a lot thicker than floss-thin string used here.

Yeah, that was the only thing I could find that I could thread through the tiny DS… hole thing. Thread didn’t go through… looking for something more permanent.

So now I’ve got this and a KK Slider charm… I need more!

“Concussion”

May 9, 2010: Four bars of ungghhhhblhearghhhhhh. I have a headache.

I’m gonna post some music soon, but here’s some banners I made for Fuck Yeah Famicom’s contest. I’m not sure which one I like the best, if any. Rounded corners are still cool, right? Which elements do you like?

I think the third banner (on the contest page, not mine) is the best, though I wonder what the Japanese says…

“I’ll Have A Cup of Ocean” by Little Space Beast

April 28, 2010: This was one of the first songs written for the Korg DS-10 that I really liked. It made me realize that you can create good music on the DS-10 that isn’t just techno garble or synth covers.

This is also the first song I tried to create. The first part is pretty much the same, but after that I wrote it from memory and it isn’t very similar at all. I do want to cover the whole song, it’s just going to take more than one file. Definitely check out the original on Little Space Beast’s page, it’s really good!

This is also the first song I recorded in stereo in Audacity. I have no excuse for not doing it before, I just didn’t think of it. It was a simple matter of plugging into the Line In instead of the Mic, and changing the recording option to Stereo. Duh. Thanks, Josh!

Hey, thanks for the follow! Your Tumblog is full of WIIIIIIIIIN!! DS is currently throwing down with the Super Nintendo for the title of my favorite console ever.

No, thank you!

“Game Card Precautions” by BC Likes You. This is one of over two dozen tracks on Health and Safety, a DS10Forum.com compilation album of songs composed with Korg DS-10 and inspired by the Health and Safety precautions in the Nintendo DS system booklet. The release is filled with titles like “Contact with Dust And Lint” and “Designed And Licensed For Use With The Nintendo DS”.

To be honest, I didn’t enjoy most of the tracks on this album, but I liked this song enough and it’s a neat concept. Also, it’s nice to hear some of the music people are making with the Korg DS-10 software.

April 18, 2010: Again, this was inspired by old Adult Swim bump music. I’ve been reading about all the sound design concepts that go in to synthesizing music… these old Korg manuals are helpful. Pulse and triangle and saw waves, attack and release and sustain, Voltage-Controlled Oscillators, low and high pass filters, patching… woo! I never realized sound creation was so complex!

It’s really fun, though. If you know enough, you could probably create any sound from scratch. That’s pretty awesome.

Disqus login problem

ETA: I guess it was just that computer or version of firefox cause it works now.

I still can’t log in to Disqus. I set up my account, connected it to my Tumbler page, but I can’t log in. I know the username and pass I use are correct; when I try to log in, it doesn’t say they were wrong, it just refreshes the login page.

When I try to search for help, it just says to enable cookies. I’m accepting cookies. ALL cookies! I’m the goddamn Cookie Monster! I’m using Firefox 3.6.3.

Anyone else have this problem? I just needed to vent.

April 14, 2010: Oh, hey Tumblr. I haven’t played with my Korg in a while cause I’ve been practicing drums, looking for work, and whatever who cares.

I always loved the music on the old Adult Swim bump screens… you know, those things they used to torment their viewers. So imagine this loop as music playing during one one those breaks.
